The 1891 census lists Arthur as living at 97 Malham road, Lewisham. He is one of many children to his parents John & Ruth Roake, John is a baker. Older siblings are Herbert, William, Thomas, Henry, Edward, Ruth  plus Alfred is slightly younger.

The LCC records of 1922 list Arthur Roake :

Arthur Roake (R.N.R., L.F.B.) was awarded the D.S.M. for his gallantry on 25th April, 1915, when, being one of a small party which had been landed to reconnoitre, he carried a wounded officer under heavy fire back to the boats, and the next day acted as a guide to a second party.

Roake, Arthur (1914-17); D.S.M. ; Able Seaman, Royal Navy ; H.M.S. Audacious, H.M.S. Cornwallis and H.M.S. Foyle, Dardanelles 12 months ; Presumed drowned, 15th March, 1917.

Deceased 15 March 1917, lost when HMS Foyle was sunk by a mine
