John Gill Sampson Adam

John Gill Sampson Adam was a teacher for the London County Council prior to serving in the Great War.

John Gill Sampson Adam (1915-18) ; was a Company Sergeant-Major, in the London Regiment ; serving in France for 4 months ; before reported Missing on the 25th July, 1918.

His war record lists him serving with the 12th London from 25th January 1918 to the 1st May 1918, then the 6th London from the 2nd May 1918 to the 15th June 1918; and lastly the 8th London from the 16th June 1918 until his death. His regimental number was 388027.


His will dated 1920 notes :
John Gill Sampson Adam of 10 Canonbury square Highbury Middlesex company-sergeant-major 8th battalion City of London regiment died 25 July 1918 in France Administration London 3 February to Gertrude Adam widow. Effects £168 7s 10d.

His Commonwealth Graves records states:
John Gill Sampson Adam CSM 388027 Post Office Rifles, 25th July 1918. Age 35. Son of the late William and Clara Adam, of 15 Earlesmere Avenue, Balby; husband of Gertrude Adam, of 68 Warmsworth road, Balby, Doncaster.
