For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has continually displayed the greatest fearlessness in collecting and attending to wounded under heavy fire.
He took a stretcher party through intense barrage to rescue a wounded officer, and, when all were killed but himself, he remained with the officer until a fresh party arrived. He has been twice recommended for gallantry of this description. (26.7.17)
