The Military Cross was instituted as a Decoration on December 28th, 1914, to
reward Distinguished Services rendered by Officers of certain ranks in the army
in time of war. Bars may be added for additional acts of gallantry. Since August
1st, 1918, it has, like the D.S.O., been awarded for "services in action" only.

MOEUVRES, 27th September, 1918. By conspicuous gallantry and determination he
led his company to their objective, when he pushed forward and allowed companies
in rear to consolidate, By his determination and fine example he held a most
important point during a very critical period in the fight in spite of fierce
opposition, and later rendered invaluable assistance to troops on his flanks by
giving them information and enabling them to continue the attack.
