Medal & Mortality index
The Military Cross was instituted as a Decoration on December 28th, 1914, to
reward Distinguished Services rendered by Officers of certain ranks in the army
in time of war. Bars may be added for additional acts of gallantry. Since August
1st, 1918, it has, like the D.S.O., been awarded for "services in action" only.
MOLLER, Lieut. Arthur Appleby ... ... ... ... Grenadier Guards
HOUTHULST FOREST, 12th October, 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to
duty when in command of a company. After reaching his objective, finding he was
much harassed by fire from a post on his front, he at once organised a raid on
it. Keeping it under a steady fire, he worked up an assaulting party on flank
and rear, who dealt effectively with all who remained in the post. One machine
gun was captured.
