The Military Cross was instituted as a Decoration on December 28th, 1914, to
reward Distinguished Services rendered by Officers of certain ranks in the army
in time of war. Bars may be added for additional acts of gallantry. Since August
1st, 1918, it has, like the D.S.O., been awarded for "services in action" only.
NELSON, Lieut. William Percival ... ... ... ... R.A.M.C. (1 /Artists)
RUMILLY, 8th October, 1918. For gallantry and devotion to duty. During a very
severe bombardment of artillery and machine guns he constantly went out to the
help of the wounded, attending them with utter disregard for danger, and was the
means of saving several lives and alleviating a great deal of suffering. He has
at all times set a striking example by his fearlessness and devotion to duty.
