The Military Cross was instituted as a Decoration on December 28th, 1914, to
reward Distinguished Services rendered by Officers of certain ranks in the army
in time of war. Bars may be added for additional acts of gallantry. Since August
1st, 1918, it has, like the D.S.O., been awarded for "services in action" only.

This officer has acted as Staff Captain to the brigade since its formation on
ist February, 1917. Throughout the ARRAS battle, the operations in the YPRES
SALIENT from 3ist July to 2oth October, and the CAMBRAI battle, he has shown the
utmost untiring energy and capacity for organisation. The task of providing
supplies, etc., has often been one of very great difficulty, but on no occasion
has there been any failure in the arrangements he has made.
