The Military Cross was instituted as a Decoration on December 28th, 1914, to
reward Distinguished Services rendered by Officers of certain ranks in the army
in time of war. Bars may be added for additional acts of gallantry. Since August
1st, 1918, it has, like the D.S.O., been awarded for "services in action" only.

CORBIE, 19th July, 1918. For conspicuous gallantry when ordered to move a gun
from a position which was under heavy shell fire, shells dropping among the guns
and causing several casualties. He cleared the wounded with the help of two
non-commissioned officers, and then with great coolness and determined energy he
caused the gun to be dismounted and moved before it sustained serious damage
from the heavy shelling.
