The Military Cross was instituted as a Decoration on December 28th, 1914, to reward Distinguished Services rendered by Officers of certain ranks in the army in time of war. Bars may be added for additional acts of gallantry. Since August 1st, 1918, it has, like the D.S.O., been awarded for "services in action" only.

MILITARY CROSS
ANDREWS, 2ND Lt. Reginald Wood, R.F.A. ? For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Whilst under heavy shell fire he succeeded, with others, in extinguishing a fire in an ammunition dump close to a gun, 500 charges having become ignited and in very dangerous proximity to the shells. The camouflage covering the gun was also on fire, and he extinguished it. — Gazette, 18 July 1917.
