in time of war. Bars may be added for additional acts of gallantry. Since August

MILITARY CROSS :
BOWEN, Temp. Lt. Joseph Jones, Welsh R. ? For conspicuous gallantry and devotion
to duty. When the line was being heavily attacked, and in danger of being
broken, this officer took charge of the reserve company of the battalion, and so
organised the line as to stop further withdrawal. He also made a reconnaissance
to the front, and brought back valuable information. His energy and
determination during a week's fighting were an example to all. — Gazette, 16
